Background: Mariella studied sociology at the University of Vienna and graduated as a Magister of Social and Economic Sciences in 2002. In 2005 she took her doctor´s degree with specialisation on sociology of health and family and qualitative research methods. She worked as a projectmanager in different public health projects and has been a lecturer at the Department of Nursing Science at the University of Vienna.  She focused her research on sociale aspects of genetic issues at the Department of Sociology at the Institute for Advanced Studies Vienna.

At CURE her research focus is on the advancement of qualitative research methods for HCI research in the context of ambient assisted living in national and international projects.
